For over 65 years, Schaefer Denture Clinic has been helping people feel like themselves again. We know dentures are more than just teeth. They affect how you eat, speak, and show up in the world. That’s why everything we do is built on one core belief: your smile should feel like you.
We’re a family-led clinic in Edmonton with a simple mission: treat every patient with honesty, respect, and care. You won’t find sales pitches here. Just clear answers, real support, and a commitment to doing what’s right.
Our roots go back to a single decision made over half a century ago when our grandfather, a trained dentist from Germany, came to Edmonton with his skills, his passion, and nowhere to practice. Canada didn’t recognize his degree, so he got to work where he could: in the lab.
That decision helped shape denturism across Alberta. And his commitment to care, truly patient-centered, no-pressure care, became the foundation for everything we do today.
Schaefer Denture Clinic has stayed family-owned ever since. Today, Joshua Schaefer leads with the same integrity and empathy his grandfather lived by, supported by a team that treats every patient like they’re part of something bigger.
We’re proud to be a fixture in the Edmonton community. But more than that, we’re proud to be the clinic people send their parents to. Their friends. The people who matter most.
There are a lot of denture clinics in Edmonton. But people come to Schaefer because we do things differently.
We don’t push. We don’t assume. We don’t talk over anyone’s head. Instead, we slow down, listen closely, and build a plan that makes sense for your mouth, your lifestyle, and your budget.
It’s how we’ve earned our reputation as one of the best denture clinics near you, not by advertising it, but by living it.
Our care model is education-first, zero-judgment, and deeply personal. We take the time to explain what’s happening, what your options are, and what each path looks like. So you can make choices with confidence, not confusion.
At Schaefer Denture Clinic, you’re not walking into a faceless practice; you’re being welcomed by a team that truly cares. Here’s who you’ll meet:
Getting dentures can be overwhelming. We get that. So our job is to make things feel simpler, not scarier.
From the first phone call, we create space for real questions and real answers. We explain every option clearly. We slow things down when they need to be slowed down. And we never rush a decision just to “get things moving.”
Our goal? That you leave feeling more informed, more comfortable, and more confident than when you arrived.
You’ll speak with Marci, who’ll gather a few key details like your date of birth, address, and insurance information. If you have questions, she’ll connect you with Josh or Barbara directly. Before your visit, we’ll pre-authorize your insurance so you know what your exam will cost, no surprises.
When you arrive, you’ll be greeted, not rushed. Marci will confirm any missing info and ask you to fill out a short medical and dental history form. Once that’s done, you’ll head into the operatory at your own pace.
Josh will review your form, ask about your concerns, and learn what you already know about dentures. He’ll take time to explain your options clearly and answer anything you’re unsure about, always with patience, never pressure.
You’ll receive a full head, mouth, and oral health assessment. From there, Josh will outline all treatment options, along with quotes and insurance estimates. Even if you’re not ready to decide, you’ll leave with everything you need to think it over. If you do choose to move forward, we can begin with impressions right away.

A few things that matter to us:
Everyone is welcome here regardless of age, gender, nationality, orientation, or income level.
You’ll never be rushed into a decision.
You’ll leave with a clear plan, in writing, even if you choose to wait.
“Getting used to dentures is like breaking in a new pair of shoes. They feel strange at first, but with time, they become part of you again. For some patients, that adjustment is possible. For others, it isn’t. And knowing the difference is part of good care.”
If you’re helping a parent, spouse, or friend through the denture process, you’re not alone, and you’re not expected to navigate it blind.
We regularly work with caregivers, and we’ll keep you in the loop with updates after key appointments (like the initial consult and denture insert). You’re welcome to join in-person or by phone/FaceTime, and we’ll always make space for your questions and concerns.
Many of our patients live with dementia, mobility issues, or complex health conditions. About 25–30% use walkers, wheelchairs, or rolling beds, and we adjust care to meet them where they are. For those who can’t leave home, Josh offers out-of-office visits. For patients with cognitive challenges, we go slower, invite family into the process, and prioritize comfort above all.
We’re also honest about what’s realistic. Sometimes, especially with advanced dementia, new dentures just won’t take. They may feel foreign, frustrating, or even frightening to the patient. In those cases, Josh may recommend adjustments or refits instead, always choosing the path that causes the least stress and the most comfort.
We’re not in the business of pushing anyone into a decision. If you’re just starting to explore your options, or helping someone else do the same, you’re in the right place.
